Majestic Reading break record

Reading finished off the season with a 2-1 win over QPR. Their football was not quite the flowing stuff we have been used to and they failed to get the third goal which would have made them the first team ever to get 100 goals and 100 points in the same season. They did however break Sunderlands record for the highest number of points in a league season finishing on 106. The last goal of the season was a penalty scored 7 minutes from full time by Graeme Murty readings Captain and right back and the only first choice outfield player not to have scored this season. As we left the ground after the presentation of the Championship trophy my son and I agreed that were unlikely to ever see such a season again. We have been truly privileged to see such a side and watch some awesome football.

Meanwhile the Leeds United manager seemed determined to worry only about the playoffs and not about who had the home leg first. He made numerous changes effectively playing a reserve team by dropping Rob Hulse, Sean Derry, Eddie Lewis, Liam Miller, Gary Kelly, Stephen Crainey and captain Paul Butler. It remains to be seen whether or not this will pay off in the play off semis. On the plus side some key players will be rested and on the down side confidence may have been damaged and home advantage for the second leg has been forfeit.
